FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Updated: May 23, 10:45 a.m.; previously updated: May 21, 11:30 a.m.)
Due to rising lake and creek levels, and in the interest of public safety, the City of West Kelowna has been forced to re-close Gellatly Road to vehicle traffic at Powers Creek Bridge, effective immediately and until further notice. Those trying to access the Cove Lakeside Resort, Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park, the West Kelowna Yacht Club or other points south of Powers Creek Bridge are advised to access Gellatly Road South using the Glenrosa Road Interchange. The mulit-use section, on the east side of the bridge, remains open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Shannon Lake Road Bridge over McDougall Creek remains open to single-lane alternating traffic. Motorists are asked to obey the temporary traffic signals and signage that have been installed and to be cautious in the area as flood monitoring and mitigation efforts will be ongoing there. RCMP will also be monitoring the area to ensure motorists are complying with traffic controls
Gellatly Road from Witt Road to Angus Drive remains closed indefinitely in the interest of public safety. Smith Creek, which runs parallel to this section of Gellatly Road, has eroded the adjacent banks. Motorists are asked to be neighbourly and respect the 30 km/hr speed limit on Carrall and Witt Roads or choose alternate, collector routes for access to and from Highway 97. Speed bumps have been installed along this detour route to slow traffic. Large truck traffic should avoid detouring through Carrall and Witt Roads.
