Transit Service Restored

From BC Transit

November 23, 2016

BC Transit and its local government partners are pleased to announce that service on Kelowna Regional Transit will resume November 24, 2016 following an agreement between BC Transit's service contractor First Canada and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1722.

"It is always good news when two parties are able to come together in good faith as part of the collective bargaining process and agree on a resolution that is good for both the employees and taxpayers," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. "The government thanks the union, the employer, BC Transit, the city and local MLAs for their work in bringing this work stoppage to an end. Most of all, we thank members of the public for their patience, recognizing that any disruption to transit service is never easy."

As a thank you to our customers for their patience, BC Transit, the Province of BC and our local government partners will provide free service in the Kelowna Regional Transit System for the remainder of November.

We would ask our valued customers to please be patient while full service is restored as there may be operational delays.  BC Transit is pleased First Canada and their unionized employees were able to find a mutually agreeable resolution to restore transit service to the community.

Customers can visit bctransit.com/kelowna or call 250-860-8121 for information about schedules, fares, and routes in the Kelowna Regional Transit system.

BC Transit and its local government partners are pleased to announce that full transit service is expected to resume shortly after a tentative agreement was reached Tuesday evening between BC Transit’s service contractor First Canada and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1722.

The ATU is expected to present the terms of the tentative agreement to its membership on November 23, 2016. First Canada will resume all transit services as quickly as possible, once the agreement has been ratified by their employees.

BC Transit is pleased that First Canada and their unionized employees were able to find a mutually agreeable resolution to restore transit service to the community. We would like to thank our valued customers for their patience during the service disruption that has occurred as part of the collective bargaining process. BC Transit is advising customers who use public transit to continue making alternative arrangements for their transportation until the agreement has been ratified and full service levels are restored.
