In winter, property owners are required to remove snow and ice from sidewalks and walkways bordering their lot.
The municipality only removes snow and ice from sidewalks that are adjacent to civic buildings, and municipally owned and managed parking lots, staircases and walkways.
In spring, in preparation for street sweeping, residents are requested to remove debris from sidewalks bordering their properties, prior to the start of the sweeping program. Dependent on weather, street sweeping commences in early to mid March. The City of West Kelowna will advertise a street sweeping schedule in the local newspaper and on the homepage under the Calendar.

General Sidewalk Repairs & Upgrades
The municipality is responsible for general repairs on approximately 60 kilometers of sidewalks within the City of West Kelowna.
The municipality conducts an annual inspection of all sidewalks to identify deficiencies. The highest priority deficiencies are repaired with funds provided in the annual budget by Council. The department hires a contractor to correct any deficiencies.
Uneven & Broken Sidewalks
As a result of ground heaves and tree roots, sidewalks sometimes become uneven or broken. "Toe stubbers" are fixed by placing asphalt or by raising the sidewalk panel. If a panel is broken and cannot be fixed, it will be scheduled for replacement as part of the City of West Kelowna's Pedestrian Improvement Program.
