Our Police Force and Civilian Staff

The City of West Kelowna's has a budgeted municipal policing force of 26 officers, who are members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. These officers work from the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment at 2390 Dobbin Road, which the city built in 2010.

The City of West Kelowna employs 5.5 support staff to assist RCMP with duties including reception, administration and fingerprinting.

Community Policing Support

The City of West Kelowna provides a vehicle, office space and an annual grant in aid ($7,000 in 2017) to a team of volunteers who run community policing programs, in support of the RCMP, such as Citizens Patrol and Speed Watch.

The City of West Kelowna is a funding partner in the regional CrimeStoppers program.

Provincial RCMP Contingent

An additional 20 provincial RCMP officers are based out of the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment. These officers police: 

  • Central Okanagan West Electoral Area
  • Highway 97C / Okanagan Connector to Sunset Main
  • Okanagan Lake from Peachland to Lake Okanagan Resort
  • Peachland
  • Rural areas on the east side of Okanagan Lake including Big White and Joe Rich
  • Westbank First Nation

Working Together

The City of West Kelowna's RCMP officers and the provincially employed members work closely together to ensure all policing calls are addressed in a timely, professional and seamless manner.
