With assistance from the Government of Canada, through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Project, the City of West Kelowna will be making major improvements to Memorial Park throughout 2016 and 2017, in preparation for the nation's sesquicentennial.
Memorial Park Improvements will include an upgraded Skate Park in place of the old, deteriorating facility, adjacent to Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre, and a new amphitheatre in the northwest section above the main field for Canada Day, Music In the Park and Westside Daze celebrations.
The revitalization of Westbank Centre is one of West Kelowna Council's Strategic Priorities; and, Memorial Park, at the end of Old Okanagan Highway, adjacent to Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre, is an area where Council has chosen to focus its revitalization efforts due to the recreational and cultural significance of the park.
Memorial Park and Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre consist of three lots (3731, 3737 and 3743 Old Okanagan Highway) totalling 11.42 acres.
The park features: a banked slope ideally suited for special event seating; indoor pool and fitness facility (see the pool's web page for more information); playing field; public parking; skateboard park; trail accesses; and, undeveloped parkland.
Memorial Park hosts several major community festivities throughout the year including:
Canada Day events
Music in the Park free outdoor concert series
Parks Play Days
West Kelowna World Music Festival; and
Westside Daze events
